The first edition of ‘The Mediterranean Dimension’ - a project aiming towards collaboration, network and support of the international development of artists - is being held between the 12 and 19 March 2017. The project provides a platform for the promotion of intercultural elements, both through artistic opportunities as well as the creation of dialogue.
Work created by Maltese and Egyptian musicians during the Intercultural Music Residency and Workshop will be performed at MED Combo Valletta: a concert of ethnic music directed by Ahmed El Maghraby from the Egyptian Centre for Culture and Arts - “Makan” (Cairo). The concert will take place on Sunday 19 March, 19:30 in Studio B, St James Cavalier in Valletta. Prior to the concert, a public discussion will take place at 17:30 in Studio B, St James Cavalier in Valletta entitled Peripheries & Centres: Intercultural Perspectives. The panel includes the Director of the Académie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence Emilie Delorme, and members of A Soul for Europe’s Nele Hertling and Nicolas Bertrand. The Mediterranean Dimension is an ARC Research & Consultancy project supported by the Malta Arts Fund and the Valletta 2018 Foundation Multi-Annual Support Grant (Malta Arts Fund). The project is developed in collaboration with Medinea, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Egyptian Centre for Culture and Arts - “Makan”, Spazju Kreattiv, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Centre for Research in Culture and Performance at the University of Malta, and A Soul for Europe.
